I Had a Bad Day of Eating. What Now?

By Ward Stanford · · 3 min read

Make tomorrow better. That is it.

Do not stress, do not over-restrict, and do not let one day turn into a binge.

What to do

  • Drink plenty of fluid and keep your hydration good.
  • The next day, go right back to the plan and the habits you already had.

Even if the scale jumped a little, it will settle back down over the next week. Body weight fluctuates. It will take care of itself.

Ask a better question

Instead of panicking about calories, ask what caused the bad day. Were you stressed, tired, unprepared, off your routine? That is the useful part. The food is already eaten. Understand the behavior, and see if you can prevent it next time.

The rare exception

If it was truly a 10,000 calorie eating challenge kind of day, you can pull back on fat and carbs a bit the next day. If you work with me, we can even look at a fasting protocol. For most people that is unnecessary unless you have a very specific, time bound goal.
